Follow Michael Portillo as he travels from Paddington to Ongar – including a cab ride on the Elizabeth line with our very own driver, Son Tran!

Running for the past 13 years, Great British Railway Journeys is a BBC documentary series presented by colourful rail buff and former MP Michael Portillo, as he travels around the railway networks of the world.

As London’s newest railway, and an iconic part of British transport history, it is only fitting that the Elizabeth line was featured.

In the episode, Michael ventured underground on the Elizabeth line, discussing how certain destinations on the route have changed since the 1800s. On the line, Michael travels east to Stratford to visit the Theatre Royal, Stratford East, where director Joan Littlewood produced ground-breaking plays such as Oh! What a Lovely War. He then travels further to Shenfield, where our stations continue to star.

The Elizabeth line episode of Great British Railway Journeys aired on Wednesday 28 June on BBC2 at 6:30pm and can be watched here.
