2-years young!
Celebrating two years since we opened the Elizabeth line!
Friday 24 May marks two years since we opened the Elizabeth line for passenger service, when we welcomed thousands of excited customers onto the brand new, highly anticipated Elizabeth line.
To celebrate, our Executive team and many MTREL colleagues welcomed Director of the Elizabeth line Howard Smith, to Harold Wood station, alongside colleagues from TfL/RfL and Network Rail, British Transport Police, and our community partners.
Howard Smith had the honour of cutting the special two-year anniversary cake, and provided a heart-warming speech about what the Elizabeth line has achieved over the past two years.
Managing Director Mike Bagshaw also shared a few words, saying: “The Elizabeth line isn’t just about getting from one place to another. It’s about innovation, progress, and a commitment to improving the lives of millions.
It’s been a huge success and we’re transporting more than 700,000 passengers per day, an incredible number, the busiest railway line in the UK.
But this isn’t easy and wouldn’t be possible without the countless people behind the scenes working so hard to make this happen. From our infrastructure providers to our frontline workers, your dedication and effort are why we’re here today.
“Thanks also to our customers for your patience and support. You’ve embraced the Elizabeth line, and together we’ve seen how it can bring neighbourhoods closer, boost our economy and improve our daily lives.
As we celebrate today, let’s look forward to even more progress and connection. Here’s to many more years of the Elizabeth line.”
